Summary

GujBill is an independent utility that presents Gujarat electricity bill and consumption information in a more readable form than the official portal. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by any government body or electricity board.

We do not sell, trade or share your personal information. If you choose to sign in, we store the minimum needed to keep your consumer numbers available across your devices: your email address, your name, and the consumer numbers you add. You can delete your linked consumer profiles, or your whole account, from inside the app at any time.

The app contains no payment gateway. Bills must be paid through the official payment partners listed on the electricity board's own website.

1. Who we are and what this policy covers

GujBill is published by Pragat Inc ("we", "us", "our"), an independent software studio. For the purposes of the GDPR we are the data controller for this app, and under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 we are the data fiduciary.

This policy covers the GujBill Android application distributed through Google Play under the package identifier inc.pragat.gujarat_vij_bill.

Independence notice

This app is not affiliated with or endorsed by any government body, electricity board, or GUVNL and its distribution companies. It is an independent tool that helps you read information you are already entitled to see. For corrections to your bill, meter readings or account details, contact the support desk or helpline published on the official website — we cannot change that data.

By installing and using the app you accept this policy. If you do not agree with it, please uninstall the app.

2. Information we collect

The app works without an account for one-off lookups. If you choose to sign in, we collect only the following:

  • Email address and display name — provided by your sign-in provider, used to authenticate you and to personalise the interface.
  • User ID — an identifier issued by the authentication service so we can associate your saved connections with you.
  • Consumer numbers you add — the connection numbers whose bills you want to check. These appear on your own bill and are retrievable from the official portal without authentication.
  • Usage and diagnostic data — aggregate analytics and crash reports, used to find faults and improve the app.

The purpose of offering sign-in is simply so that you can pick up where you left off from any device. We do not collect payment card details, precise location, contacts or your photos.

3. How we use information

We use the information described above only to:

  • authenticate you and keep you signed in;
  • store and restore the consumer numbers you have chosen to save;
  • display your name so the interface feels like yours;
  • diagnose crashes and understand which features are used, in aggregate.

We do not sell, trade or rent your personal data to anyone, and we do not use it for advertising or profiling. We do not serve your data to any other user.

4. Permissions

GujBill requests network access, which it needs to retrieve bill information from the official portal and to sign you in. It does not request contacts, precise location, camera, microphone, SMS or phone permissions.

Where a future version requires an additional permission, it will be listed here and on the Play Store listing before it ships.

5. Third-party services and processors

We rely on the following third parties, each of which processes data under its own privacy policy:

Service Role Policy
Google Firebase Authentication, database storage of your saved consumer numbers, analytics and crash reporting. firebase.google.com
GUVNL portal Source of the bill and consumption information the app displays. Operated by the electricity utility, not by us. portal.guvnl.in
Google Play Distribution and installation of the app. policies.google.com

Your account data is held on infrastructure operated by Google, which may store and process it in data centres outside your country. Where personal data is transferred internationally, that transfer relies on the safeguards Google offers under its terms, including the European Commission's standard contractual clauses where applicable.

6. Where the bill data comes from

The bill payment and consumption details the app shows are retrieved from the official public portal at portal.guvnl.in. That information is accessible to you there directly, without authentication, but not in a form that is comfortable to read on a phone. GujBill exists to present it clearly.

Everything the app displays therefore depends on data served by that portal, not by our servers. We do not alter it, and we cannot correct it. If a figure looks wrong, or your account details need changing, please contact the support desk or helpline number published on the official site.

7. Payments

The app contains no payment gateway and never asks for card, UPI or netbanking details. If you want to pay a bill, do so through the official payment partners listed on the electricity board's own website. We do not receive, process or store payment information of any kind.

8. Data retention and deletion

You are in control of the account data we hold:

  • Remove a connection — delete any linked consumer profile from within the app, at any time, without contacting us.
  • Delete your account — the app includes an in-app account deletion option that removes your account and its associated saved data.
  • Retention — we keep your account data for as long as your account exists. Once you delete it, it is removed from our active systems, and from routine backups within a short period thereafter.

Aggregate analytics and crash data are retained by Google Firebase under Google's retention settings and cannot be traced back to you individually.

9. Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect your information against unauthorised access or disclosure. Your account data is held in Google-operated infrastructure, protected by that platform's access controls and encryption in transit and at rest. Access rules are configured so that your saved connections are readable only by your own signed-in account.

No method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we ever become aware of a breach affecting your personal data, we will notify you and the relevant authority where the law requires it.

10. Children's privacy

GujBill is a household utility tool intended for adults responsible for paying electricity bills. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If we learn that we hold such information, we will delete it promptly. Parents or guardians who believe a child has provided us with personal data should contact us at the address in section 13.

11. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you have rights over your personal data under laws including the EU and UK GDPR, the California CCPA/CPRA, and India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023:

  • Access — ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction — ask us to correct data that is inaccurate, or update your name in the app directly. Bill data itself must be corrected by the electricity board.
  • Erasure — delete your account in the app, or ask us to delete it for you.
  • Portability — ask us for your saved connection data in a machine-readable form.
  • Objection and restriction — object to or ask us to restrict particular processing.
  • No sale or sharing — we do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of.

To exercise any of these, email us at the address in section 13. We do not charge for this and we will not discriminate against you for asking. You also retain the right to complain to your local supervisory authority.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, the revised policy will be posted on this page and the "Last updated" date above will change, and the Play Store listing's Data Safety section will be updated to match. Please review this page periodically.
